![]() Every day we perform many tasks without thinking about them. We know that the alarm clock is near the bed, and when it starts shouting at us to wake up, our arm snakes its way out from under the blankes and finds just the right button to push to turn off the noise. Stumbling through our morning wake-up routine, we invariably perform more habitual tasks such as brushing our teeth with just the right amount of toothpaste, putting our shoes on right foot first, hitting buttons for coffee without even looking at the coffee maker, and so on; habits that we can do in our sleep, and some of us really do most of them half awake. Fortunately, these habits are habits that we want to have. However, there are habits that we may not know that we have or that we do not like having. Those are the habits that coaching can help you find and resolve. Coaching is communication between two people - you and an unbiased listener. Coaches are not your best friends. They will not tell you what they think you want to hear. They help you find what you need to know to move one step, two steps, three steps closer to your goal. Coaches help you to stay focused on your goal. They help you see what you can do, not what you cannot do. Coaching creates an environment for reviewing what is going on in your life that may be cause you to have habits that are preventing you from getting to where you want to be. Coaching provides you an opportunity to look at you life and make necessary changes. Although looking at your life with your coach may not always feel comfortable, it does allow you to open up to someone who can help you. It provides a place away from everything going on in your life where you can be honest and know that although the coach may challenge your thoughts or your actions, you will not be abandoned because of them. Coaching helps you see that you have obstacles - habits - that are keeping you from reaching your goal. Coaching helps you define how you will climb over, dig under, go around, or push through those obstacles to get to your goal. When you face those obstacles with a coach by your side, you have a cheerleader, a fan, and most importantly, someone who will continue to hear what you are saying, feeling, and doing and provide positive, uncritical feedback to help you move one more step.
